"Oh… oh, sure!" Olethra was quick on Marya's heels as she left the workshop, carrying her injured hands bent at the wrist like Courtney might do. "But, where are we going?"
"Into the city for some supplies," said Marya, rolling up her sleeves and gritting her teeth. "It is time for this ship's capabilities to increase by one new medic."

With Monty and his naturalist abilities gone back through the Biangle to Gath, and Van reluctant to overuse Tazgw’agwa’s boon, the captain’s desire to pick up the slack has everything to do with her duty to the ship and her crew, and nothing at all to do with the yawning chasm that opens in her soul when she has nothing with which to distract herself.

Miryam absolutely did not jump at the rumbling voice high above her head. Absolutely not. She was a dignified and calm captain who held herself to a high standard. After all, her actions reflected on the Gotch family, and it wouldn't do to undermine them.
Then again, the Gotch family had just somewhat imploded, with several awful members (she never had liked that rat Hatwell) attempting to kill the Gotch brothers who were a part of the whirlwind adventures of the Zephyr. These were her two favorite Gotches (Maxwell Gotch had brought her along on this adventure and set her on this path, and, well, Wealwell was Wealwell), so she didn't much appreciate them being assaulted, by their own family no less.
So perhaps Miryam didn't need to worry about reflecting badly on the Gotch family. Wealwell had corrupted her enough, anyway.
All that to say, she absolutely did not jump but it would have been alright if she did.
