Summary
I tried to come up with an explanation, or a warning, or something to tell Sloane about the intimacy of a mender and siphon doing complex work together. I’d dug through books and journals of other menders, and I’d seen plenty of references to the connection, but nothing that explained it. The closest was an observation that a mender worked best with a siphon assigned as their permanent partner. Nobody talked about what definition of ‘partner’ was being used.
After the Battle of Basgiath, Brennan teaches Sloane how her signet is meant to be used.

“Before it all, I was trying to decide between a scribe or a healer.” Isela said with a wistful sigh. Despite the dragons judging her on both sides. “But then I met Violet. She was already deep into training to be a scribe by the time I got there. And while I was doing drills in the courtyard she’d practice transcribing or reading a tome. I learned a lot about the scribes from her. And honestly I wished I was her.”
