Though he does not glance at him, he feels the shift when it happens in Hashirama. Hashirama widens his stance on the ground, sits instead with his arms planted on the ground behind himself. Fearlessly, Madara scoots closer to him and rests his head upon that steady shoulder. He thinks that like this, there is nothing bigger than them. This small moment, with the sun over their tree and the unbearable heat away from him, there is nothing to fear.
At long last, here is peace.
Madara is home.

Summary
Izuna was a minor character in the novel. He barely had any screen-time and mostly existed as a plot device. His death spurred Madara to eventually forsake the village entirely and turn against them all. His death caused an unfathomable rift between Madara, Hashirama, and Tobirama himself. Hashirama no longer trusted his brother like he had before. Madara’s loathing of Tobirama represented all he hated about the village itself. Tobirama could not get over his fear of Madara, and Hashirama’s affection for him, and it poisoend the village for decades to come.
Tobirama doesn’t particularly want to repeat any of that.

Both men hesitated for a second, then the older one spoke up. “One: Keep an eye on Uchiha Izuna at all times. Two: Make sure he does not ever notice your presence. Three: Every injury he sustains on your watch will be inflicted on you as well. Addendum: In the occasion of him getting undressed or changed, watching him do so is strictly prohibited. The smoke clears and they’re both breathing heavy. Black Cat has him pinned to the ground with his own weight and straddling his waist, but Tobirama can’t make a move if he doesn’t want his throat slit.
Tobirama wants to ask what the hell is going on, but doesn’t really get a chance before the ANBU chuckles and drops their hand so the kunai is no longer threatening to draw blood. They pull off their mask, and Tobirama’s blood runs cold at the face of Uchiha Izuna smirking down at him.
