Freya nods slowly, pursing her lips. “Not much you can do about that, I’m afraid,” she says, patting his arm gently, “but we’ll pick you out a pretty coffin.”
Or: Arthur didn’t speak to Merlin much before Merlin lost his temper at him in Uncle Gaius’s apothecary, but the incident has apparently only strengthened Arthur’s resolve to avoid Merlin for the rest of time. On a completely unrelated note, Merlin is also now being gently stalked by Arthur’s friends and sister.

Sunlight hits just right on the golden bangs falling into blue eyes. His lips have that smug quirk Merlin so hates. In a low voice, he asks, “Does that mean you’ll date exclusively me?”
That snaps Merlin right out of it. “What?”
Arthur nods to his shirt, making him look down.
And printed there, in big, black letters is, ‘lol ur not arthur pendragon’.
“Oh my god.” Merlin stares at the text in horror. This is a nightmare, a disaster, a fucking catastrophe. Absolute worst thing to happen to him in his entire life. Pendragon must think Merlin is some obsessed megafan, interested in him.
Side note: Gwaine Orkney is a dead, dead man.

Arthur Pendragon can pinpoint the exact moment his life started going downhill. It wasn't when he came out at thirteen because his childhood had been a relatively happy one, if a little light on the expression of affection and feelings. Because his life isn't the plot of a romcom, it wasn't the moment he met Merlin at a Freshers Week party, got in a fight with him, and subsequently threw up on his shoes. No, the moment his life really went to shit was the day Gwen and Lance got together and broke the pact they had all made four years ago to date outside their group of friends. Because everyone knows that couples spawn other couples, and once all the couples have gotten together, the only thing they have left to do is set up the rest of their single friends. And when you've been secretly pining away after your best mate for the better part of a decade as Arthur has, you'd feel understandably nervous when everyone is suddenly fixated on finding the perfect match for Merlin.
