But he can’t stay, can’t live with the disappointed glances and murmurs and whispers.
And so, Kieran runs. Runs, and runs, and runs until everything he’s left behind is a distant memory.

Summary
What happens when you achieve everything you’ve ever wanted?
What happens when you do it, when you get out there and prove everyone wrong. Show everyone that your the best, that you really did it?
What happens when there’s nowhere else to go? What happens when you realize that there is no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, and now your all alone, at the end of a long road with no one by your side and nothing to show for it?
How would you react, knowing that everything you’ve worked for, to prove yourself, was all hollow in the end. How would that make you react? How would you feel?
Kieran felt nothing, standing alone at that peak.

Summary
It was as humid of a day as it could ever be in the coastal biome as Kieran fumbled endlessly with the device in his hands, not able to get it running. He should have expected this, it was a rickety prototype after all, or at least according to that lady in the central plaza. A Synchro Machine, she had called it. The initial test had been a wonderful experience that made him much closer to his Pokémon (literally) and much easier to train them, but so far it had not worked again outside of that instance once it was handed over to him. He was never the best with intricate technology such as this, groaning frustratedly as it threw another error code that he couldn’t understand up on the screen.

Summary
Days blurred into weeks. The world overhead had changed while Zelda stared past the ground into greater depths deep below the earth. Chasms and caves and islands in the sky, ruins older than Hyrule falling across her kingdom and strange beasts no one had ever known crawled out of hiding. The Zelda of months gone would have leapt at all the new discoveries waiting for her. Her ravenous curiosity clawed at the weight settled over Zelda’s thoughts even now, but she had little room left in her head to care.
Still. Still, Hyrule needed her. The world was ending all over again and Link was gone, but Zelda was a princess still; the goddess’ power hummed in her blood. This was not the first time she’d shouldered the burden of the apocalypse on her own, and she doubted, now, that it would be the last.
Zelda isn't unfamiliar with losing Link; to death from a Guardian's beam, to amnesia from his resurrection, and now to the darkness below Hyrule Castle. But Link may be closer, and further away, than ever before.
