He had a smile that you couldn’t help but react to— one that encouraged everyone around him to respond in kind. That power of his really was terrifying. Of course Nanase was special — there was no one else like him in the world, as far as Iori was convinced.

It made no sense to hear his own name in this place. For a moment HiMERU thought he must have imagined it. Then he turned to look in the direction of the voice. There was a man standing at the top of the hill.

For a moment Rhyme didn’t respond. But then, she said, a little reluctantly, "Yeah.”
It figured. Neku hadn’t remembered her. Neither had Beat, who’d actually worked for her. Of course the only kid who actually did was the one she'd gotten Erased.

Now, as Ren lay with his limbs spread out on the bed, his slumber was heavy and solid, not easily ended. Not fragile, unlike the deep blue silence of the early morning, or the peace that Goro had painstakingly built in the aftermath of everything and now gathered close enough around him to wear like a protective cloak. The clock that had already fallen once from the bookshelf in the corner was fragile, as was the thread that tied Ren and everyone else who had the misfortune of being born mortal to life. Lately Goro felt as if he himself was never far away from shattering. Sometimes, when he looked at Ren like this, calm and still and effortlessly content, he felt like he was going to break.
