Summary
“Did you have a good rest last night Lucy?” Kipps inquired, obviously not understanding how things worked yet.
“Yes, did you?” George piped in, breaking with tradition and confusing Lucy enough for her to raise her head. For some reason both Kipps and George had suddenly straightened up and were staring directly at Lucy.
“It was fine?” Lucy replied.
“I bet it was.” George said, adjusting his glasses smugly. “I was kind of jealous; it looked very cozy. I ended up sleeping alone last night after Kipps took Lockwood’s cot.”
Lucy opened her mouth, but nothing came out. When it became obvious that nothing was going to come out, she shut it with as much grace as possible. This did not help with George and Kipps’s smirking problem.
