In exactly seven days, Fahlada is to meet her partner for marriage. At the moment, there are still several candidates for the part. Tan has been asked to come to the palace to assist her in narrowing the number down to one.
She gets an inkling her mother seems to have her eyes set on Wisanu. Tan, since his arrival this morning, seems to be on the same page as her mother and has been singing nothing but praises for him.

Still, maybe it doesn’t come as a surprise at all. Her predictability owes itself to her reluctance to be predictable which makes her all the more predictable in its irony. Her mother certainly acted as though she had seen it coming. Even now, as Wednesday makes her presence known beside her mother, casting a shadow on her seated figure, Morticia remains a picture of indifference.
“There are too many neurologists in New Jersey,” Wednesday starts, not bothering with the pleasantries.
“Too many, you say?” Morticia almost hums under her breath, taken more so by the flowers she’s tending to in their garden. Not one yet to fully bloom.

Kieu my is scared of the potential of that warmth, of what it can grow in the garden of her body. Even though she knows that not every seed planted would birth a flower, when she sinks into the warmth of Fatou’s tender hands, she knows with absolute clarity – more than anything she claims she ever knows, more than the simple and complicated science that she knows roots her existence here on this Earth – that a rose has already bloomed in her heart and with it its thorns.
