Summary
Tanis wasn’t sure if it was because of the wine, or a trick of the silver and red moonlight filtering through the canopy of near-barren branches, but Sturm’s face looked uncharacteristically rosy. At first, he didn’t meet Tanis’s expectant gaze, and he repeatedly ran a thumb over his mustache as he thought, obviously conflicted about something.
Then, all at once, Sturm was in motion. He reached for Tanis’s arm again, like he was steadying himself this time, and quickly leaned in close to— wait, what was he—?
Oh.

Sturm eventually eats because Tanis begs him to do so—and it’s such an awful relief when the knight concedes, like drinking water in a desert after he’d expected none.
Nothing Tanis says however can rescue Sturm from the darkness closing in on his soul.
Tanis places Sturm’s head in his lap because it’s good to see him breathing, it’s good to know he’s still alive, and it’s awful to think that he might simply pass—not from violence or starvation—but because he lost his grip on any interest in life.
Death is one way to escape a cage.

Her hands went to his scaled chest, tracing the patterns there. “I have fought beside men,” she said, her tone low and direct. “I have commanded them. I have taken my pleasures with them. But you are not a man. You are a storm given shape. You are power. And I want that power upon me.”
Her words ignited him. He caught her wrists, his scaled hands encompassing them easily, and drew her forward. His kiss this time was fiercer, a claiming of her mouth that spoke of the dragon’s nature. She yielded, not with submission, but with a fierce reciprocation, her teeth grazing his lip, her own force meeting his.

“What we need to do,” said Astarion, “is very simple. To take back our home, win the favor of this drow matron, and establish a reputation to be respected and feared from here to Chult, we only need to put on the most incredible musical theater show the Underdark has ever seen.”
Gale didn’t react for a moment. Then he said, “But you hate the stage.”
