La question rhétorique, mais pertinente, de Jules comportait plusieurs niveaux de lecture, le premier étant de savoir ce qu’on entendait par ‘ici’. Comme le lecteur attentif - ou quiconque ayant lu la partie précédente - l’aura sans doute compris, ‘ici’ désignait, dans ce contexte, le milieu de l’océan. Où exactement ? Quelque part au large de la côte est de ce qui était autrefois les États-Unis. Le ‘on’ désignait évidemment le Commandant et son bouffon, dont les incroyables mésaventures constituaient le cœur de cette histoire. Quant au ‘comment’, c’était une histoire plus longue et, espérons-le, captivante…Series

“How the fuck did we end up here?”
There were several layers to Jules’ rhetoric yet relevant question, first of it being where the ‘here’ was. As the attentive reader - or anyone who has read the previous part - has no doubt realized, ‘here’ referred to the middle of the ocean in this context. Where, specifically? Somewhere off the east coast of what used to be the United States. The ‘we’ obviously referred to the Commander and her jester whose incredible misadventures form the heart of this story. As for the ‘how’, this is a longer and, hopefully, compelling story…Series
