Summary
They’ve been doing this a lot these last few months. Not exactly like this, of course. The alcohol is a new addition, a novelty, only introduced at her request, and she’d watched Yuta sprint down the road like a criminal trying to smuggle the cans up in broad daylight. But the rest of it is familiar, now, almost routine: shoulder-to-shoulder on the tatami, on her futon, in the kitchen, laughing at everything and nothing. The room’s smaller than what she’d had in Sotenbori, and infinitely shabbier. The tatami is scuffed. The standing fan clicks when she lets it cycle. The only light that gets in is through an ancient, rotting window, one that creaks when she shuts it too quickly, and if the neighbours’ kids walk too quickly, she can hear them through the walls.
She wouldn’t change it a bit.

On an ordinary day, one where he’s day drinking at two o’clock and he’s a little more nosy, maybe Tanimura would investigate. A good mystery might get him out of his funk, really. It’s been a while since he got fired.
It’s six o’clock on a Wednesday today, though, and Tanimura can’t muster the will or care to think of it any further. So he pulls out his chair, sits himself down, and prepares his hand for all greens, the flare of his nostrils the only sign that something, anything, might be going down. On its own, the conversation would be nothing. Tanimura would forget about it.
That’s the first time.-
In December 2010, there is one man that looks like Tanimura Masayoshi in Kamurocho.
Or, at least, there ought to be.

Every teenage girl seems to have a monster inside her waiting to come out; Kushina's situation is just a bit more complicated. Her big mouth and stubborn attitude get her into trouble a lot, though for some reason her best friend who's finally back from the capital and that quiet kid with the dandelion hair both don't seem to mind. A training accident that nearly sets the Nine-Tailed Fox free ends up freeing Kushina from the spiral seal instead. What's freedom when it means being thrown into the worst years of the Second War? What's camaraderie when lines are crossed and bonds are tested? And what's love supposed to do about that, or anything, you know?
