Oh, he must. There's no other possibility. There's a version of Roy out there that is lucky enough to stand by Edward's side and Roy just knows he must be too blind to see it even with two working eyes. Roy himself used to be. He used to think Edward was just a brat, just a wildcard to throw around when he needed things to get messy, but then Edward disappeared, and then he reappeared and Roy learned what it's like to love. The whip of his blond ponytail is unforgettable, the strength of that golden gaze, the broader shoulders, the unmistakable power of the twist of his body hidden under the brown shades of his new style—God, Roy knows.
And yet, there is no love for him, in the end.
I call this the "Post-COS!Roy meets BH!Ed and they get really weird about each other" fic.

“The- the man didn’t say.” Trisha murmurs back to her, eyes still red and tea clutched in her hands, Pinako’s daughter in law settles in next to her, hand squeezing her arm. “He- he calls him Red apparently, for the blanket…”
Pinako hums and doesn’t say anything about it. (Handing a baby over with nothing but a red towel and a pet’s name- it's wrong. But mostly it's sad)
Dammnit Hohenheim- you really stepped in it now.

After all, it’s at least partly his fault Itadori is here in the first place. It wouldn’t do well to be - cold, to him, on top of that. It would be the right thing, the more moral thing to do, maybe. To keep him at arms length to make sure that his miscalculations wouldn’t hurt Itadori again, wouldn’t put him in danger. Megumi doesn’t want to lull him into any false sense of security that the world of Jujutsu is fun and welcoming and about saving the world, because it isn’t. But...
He’s clearly making an effort to be friends. Megumi isn’t - he isn’t a cruel person. Not to those that don’t deserve it, and he isn’t a robot either, despite the jokes his classmates make. Itadori doesn’t deserve it.
With a sense of finality, he thinks: Tsumiki wouldn’t like it if he were unkind to Itadori, when Itadori was being kind to him. And that settles it.
