Summary

Human emotions are difficult, but he never expected them to be so painful.

Ashley slumps to the side, unconscious, and Luis feels relief as the computer chimes pleasantly, confirming the absence of the parasite. He glances up at Leon, who looks between Luis and Ashley with a faint smile of boyish triumph that Luis can’t help but find endearing.
A split-second later, Leon’s eyes roll up into his head and he collapses, the Kevlar of his vest clicking against the metal grating.

Frustrated, Leon squeezed his hands into fists, trying to control the tremors that were just getting worse, if anything. Useless, so goddamn useless, he had failed them and now he couldn’t even do the right thing and make sure none of them came back as…
“Leon.”
The sudden voice startled Leon from his thoughts and quickly he stuck his hands into his pockets, hoping that the way he was shaking wasn’t too noticeable. Only then he turned around, frowning as he eyed the familiar figure standing no more than a few steps from him. “Chris?” he asked, scrambling for self-control, hoping that he looked more normal than he felt. “What are you doing here?”
