You should’ve prepared yourself better to see him again, you should’ve been bracing yourself for the whirlwind for a few years, not just the three months after you’ve sent the RSVP for Karkat’s wedding. You felt sick the whole plane ride across the Atlantic Ocean, convincing yourself it was just nerves that anyone would get from having to be in the same room as their ex. Except you weren’t just anyone and he wasn’t just an ex and goddamit you were right to feel like the world was ending because looking at him again after all those lonely years felt like being hit by a bullet train.
You would think eight years would be enough to teach a guy a lesson or two about not sleeping with his ex boyfriend.

Childe tightens his grip on the handle of his umbrella, his expression goes almost bashful, “I was hoping you didn’t drive here.”
“Why not?”

“I hope we don't lose our memories in the afterlife,” Childe laughed, rolling over so that he laid next to Diluc, turning his head so that their eyes would meet. His face was softened by the night sky kissing him all over, the sea of stars reflected shining like pools of water in his eyes, another trickle of blood gushing from his broken nose “I really want to remember this one.”
Tartaglia does not always come home in the best condition but he comes home regardless.

Dave Strider is not the type to pine. So that is not what he is doing, for the record. If anyone were to ask, they would receive a scowl followed by a jab about their lack of brain cells.
And yet here we are, Dave staring at where John's collared shirt meets soft flesh. The blond is not glaring, at least not one that can be seen because of his super awesome shades. And to repeat, he is not pining. He is actually seething– because right there where John's skin should be unmarred, soft, and inviting is this horrible dark mark that is blooming into a bruise.

He has his hands over his face so he leans down to get a good look. Then—a blunt jab to his knee sends him to the ground right after. He’s able to catch himself slightly without dropping all of his weight onto John’s body, but it's pointless because John tackles him, flipping them so that Dave’s the one pinned to the ground.
“That’s real dirty, Egbert.”
Silence.
“Wow.” John says.
And he’s just there. Looking down at him in marvel like he was a novelty. Arms around him as though shielding the world from him, or him from the world. Sweat trickles down his face and neck.
“I think I—”
Rookie mistake.
