Summary
Canon-era AU. With the threat from Morgana and her forces growing by the day, coupled with the legalisation of magic in Camelot still in its infancy, Arthur feels that his kingdom is floundering. He agrees to a political marriage with Merlin, the young leader of the Druids, in order to secure Camelot's future and to ally himself with the one person who might be able to defeat Morgana. A marriage of convenience soon starts to become something more, and Arthur finds himself learning things about himself and his kingdom he would never have imagined, while forging a genuine connection with someone who seems to truly understand him.

Summary
Two months after Arthur found out about Merlin's magic, the two could not seem to stop fighting. Frustrated by the poor state of their relationship and for still loving Merlin despite his rejection, Arthur feels trapped by his looming marriage to Mithian to settle their kingdoms' dispute over Gedref.
Meanwhile, as Uther descends into madness, he becomes convinced that his son's illicit affair with his servant is causing his reluctance to marry, and he sets Merlin in his crosshairs.

Summary
Merlin has carved out a nice little life for himself on the outskirts of Camelot, where magic is held in far less suspicion than in the citadel. It's lonely, but peaceful.
