  2. Summary

This series comprises stories that take place in the same universe as my Unforgivable Things series, but which don't take place during the timeline of those four stories.

The stories in this series don't require knowledge of the main UT series, and will include pastfic, side branches of the storyline, and anything that comes to mind that takes place in that universe. Stories will be added on an ad hoc basis.

  4. Summary

An occasional series set during the early years of Mycroft's career, based on the Moscow rules, mostly famously articulated in le Carre's Smiley novels:

    1. Assume nothing.
    2. Never go against your gut.
    3. Everyone is potentially under opposition control.
    4. Do not look back; you are never completely alone.
    5. Go with the flow, blend in.
    6. Vary your pattern and stay within your cover.
    7. Lull them into a sense of security.
    8. Do not harass the opposition.
    9. Pick the time and place for action.
    10. Keep your options open.

    Bookmarker's Notes

The very concept of this made my head go splodey; the fic entirely lives up to the promise of the idea.

My rec from 221b recs: "Mycroft is very much on my mind these days, so as my last rec this month I bring a tiny jewel of a Mycroft fic. A short, very funny view on the early days of Mycroft's career in the civil service, partly told from the point-of-view of the one person in the administration more devious than him. And any author who can cite the Thirty Year Rule is a writer after my own heart."

    Summary

"How's a woman supposed to prove her husband's a murderer, dammit?"

On the eve of a planned voyage to Brittany, Marjorie Jameson starts her day with no problems more pressing than forcing a boatyard to do an emergency repair to the family yacht. A chance encounter at the Cowes hi-speed ferry terminal begins to unravel a web of conspiracy and murder, with her charming, untrustworthy husband Julian right at the centre and Marjorie as the next intended victim.

But no-one's going to trust the word of an aging housewife whose complaints of abuse the police have previously dismissed as delusions.
