"Shanks exhales, “I wish we’d stayed together the past twenty years.” It isn’t the first time he’s said this, unlikely it will be the last. “Then I would still be able to guess what you were thinking.”
“You’re sure of that?” Buggy asks, eyes still on Shanks, who thinks there’s… something in his voice, that makes him take a few seconds to reply. Buggy doesn’t sound angry or annoyed or any other negative emotion Shanks is more than familiar with when it comes to him. Bittersweet, Shanks suddenly thinks. Just bitter would be wrong. He’s heard it from Buggy before and it comes out a lot meaner.
Bittersweet, that’s the right word. Shanks just isn’t sure why he’s using it."
