Summary
“What about us?” Will asked suddenly. “I mean, in your reality.”
“We. . . .”
We don’t talk as much as we used to, which is crazy, because you live in my house. I feel like something’s been off ever since we closed the Upside Down, but that’d be a lie. It hasn’t felt right since you came back from Lenora. I wish we'd talk like we used to. God, I really wish we did.
I miss it.
“We’re fine.”
“Are we also together in your reality?”
“What?”
“Sorry,” Will said, flushing a little. “I meant you guys. You and your Will.”
Mike was still reeling. “Wh—no. We aren’t.”
OR: The Upside Down has opened up again, and Mike is missing. The Party bands together to bring him back and close the Upside Down, discovering instead the parallel realities that opened up with it.
And no matter what he does about it, Will still has feelings for Mike. As for Mike, his world is flipped upside down when he realizes that in another reality, they got together.

Summary
But it wasn’t a monster that came out of the trees. It was a person. A boy.
Mike froze.
Then he was spotted, and the boy stopped in his tracks; with skillful movements, he quickly slung the rifle off his shoulder and pointed it at Mike’s chest. Mike raised his hands while trying to keep most of his weight on his left leg.
“Whoa. Hey,” Mike said, his eyes wide as he stared at the tip of the rifle. “Just hold on. I’m not—I’m not going to hurt you.”
Or: A crawl gone wrong left Mike stranded in the Upside Down. Hurt and alone, Mike stumbles upon someone everyone told him was dead.

Mike pushes into his hands, but Will keeps him still.
"Ask again," he says. Because he's greedy, and he wants Mike to want him.
He stares at Will's mouth. "Please."
"Again."
El is gone.
Will tries to figure out how to move on in New York, and Mike follows him. Their apartment is haunted not by ghosts, but by the two of them.
Or: Catastrophically traumatized boys cling to each other and accidentally figure out how to be close—too close—while moving through their grief.

Summary
“Come on,” Will tries. Mike keeps his head looking away across the street. Staring right at the Sinclair’s house. His jaw clenches at the sight, even though he sees the house everyday. “Mike, I know you, and you—”
“You don’t know me,” Mike spits. Instinct makes him want to glare at Will, but that means looking at him. “And I have nothing to say to you.”
He stands up. It’s only then that Will does the same.
“Look, Mike, I’m sorry,” Will blurts out. It makes Mike’s heart skip a beat in his chest before his heart remembers that it has no business doing that over Will Byers.
Or,
April 1993 in Hawkins means that Mike has to confront a lot more than just the death of Ted Wheeler.
