Summary
Will coughs violently when the lack of oxygen creates a ringing in his ears, and then he’s leaning forward and gagging. He fully expects to see a squirming veiny worm hit the sink like one had two years ago after his encounter with the Upside Down, but instead, he’s met with petals.
Will watches in more fascination than horror as they slowly float down to the sink.
Or the one where Mike keeps falling asleep, Will can’t stop hacking up flowers, and everyone is suddenly great at giving advice.

Summary
Now, someone walked into the room. A boy, awkwardly standing at the side of his bed, looking over him worriedly. His hair was brown and scruffy, and he had big baby doe eyes and a yellow-and-blue horizontally-striped shirt like a cartoon character. The window was lighting him up like he was important to Mike’s narrative. The curtains are blue, thought Mike, this boy is light. I love metaphors. Maybe he was high on the pain meds. Upon seeing him, Mike felt a great affection, a great peace. Plus, he had long eyelashes. Mike almost giggled to himself. He was definitely a little high.
“Hi.” breathed Mike.
“Hi.” he said, hesitating.
“We’re friends?” Mike asked hopefully.
Or: During the Party's final battle with Vecna, Mike is gravely injured and loses his memories. He wakes up in a hospital only remembering a handful of inconsequential little things, like how much he loves a boy who seems like light.

Summary
Mike’s always been family long before he was in an official sense — the day Will was Jonathan’s best man, Mike another groomsman and El a bridesmaid. Whenever the Byers-Hopper-Wheeler clan gets together, he should be the last person Will should have any anxiety about speaking to.
But Will avoids being alone with Mike like the plague.

Summary
The air in Hawkins was clear, clearer than it had been in a long time. Yet for Will, it had never been harder to breathe. Every breath felt like sucking in glass, cutting up his lungs and leaving the taste of blood in his throat. It's like he's surrounded by thick honey, each step an effort, each inhale a challenge.
It didn't take Will long to realise something was wrong. Not with Hawkins, not with the Party. No, this was all Will.
