"It was when he was nearing his first decade that his Grandfather gifted him with what would quickly become his most prized possession. She was beautiful, absolutely perfect from the smooth, bouncy curls to the small lift of her smile. His Grandfather handed her to him carefully, telling him how important and fragile she was. A (mostly) canon retelling of Itsuki Shu’s life as an undiagnosed person with autism told by someone diagnosed with autism who is projecting heavily. It follows canon from his childhood up until his time in university abroad and how his thoughts, feelings and experiences shaped who he is now as a person. Aka this is an overly long character analysis, as I can write an entire essay on this mentally ill in denial homosexual man’s character development. And will!

It all started yesterday evening. Mika called in while killing time before his flight and unexpectedly learned from Shu that his landlady was about to leave for a week-long vacation, graciously letting both members of Valkyrie stay in the boarding house in her absence. They spent a long time chatting about their plans for Mika’s stay, trying to find the best way to take advantage of the situation and, well…
One word led to another, and suddenly Shu just casually mentioned that it would be the perfect opportunity for them to have sex.
Shu felt he was ready to take his relationship with Mika to the next level. It wasn't as easy as he expected.

“...Even when I’m like this? This isn’t exactly… becoming of a jester,” he wonders aloud, a self-deprecating laughter-sigh escaping his reddened lips.
You deserve more in a relationship than the promise that you will never bore them, as long as you keep performing.
...is what Shu thinks, but it’s too sharp and painful of a thought to mention right now. Summary
But the Kagehira Mika he knows would never pass by any thrown-away stuffed animal. Mika has always loved the broken things, always been good at piecing them back together, even with his messy needlework and clumsy hands, never quite perfect— but it doesn’t have to be perfect to be worthwhile, is what Mika has taught him.
He doesn’t have to be perfect. He just has to be here, right now, showing Mika his love in any way he can.

Shu, who was fully aware of how taxing the long haul flight could be, took him by the elbow and steered him to the taxi stand with a gentleness Mika had just about managed to get used to, by now. "Once we get home." He promised right by his ear to combat the airport's noise, sparking a warm candle in Mika's chest.
Mika hadn't asked for maintenance yet, but he didn't need to. He had started with that request when they were reunited enough times for Shu to notice the pattern, attentive as he was.
Maintenance is an old routine, but even old routines can change and evolve.

“Um…” Mika scratches his cheek. This is sounding like one of those deep artistic things he’s supposed to understand, but doesn’t have the slightest idea about. “Are ya sayin’… ya wanna paint me nude?”
“Non!” Shu throws up his hands. “That is not what I’m saying! Ahh, good lord.” He heaves another sigh, red to the tips of his ears.
(Shu goes on a journey of self-discovery and decides he might be ready to take his relationship with Mika to the next level. Mika, who wasn't around to see this journey, just assumes he's been replaced with a pod person.)

Ever since Shu had moved away to Paris, phone calls had become part of Mika’s routine. Their phone calls were often his favorite part of the day, even. Still, Shu had fixed rules about when they could call each other, to avoid disturbing the other's schedule.
As such, when Shu suddenly calls out of nowhere, it is glaring that something is wrong.Or, Mika gives a pep-talk to Shu over the phone and reassures him in the usual Valkyrie-absolutely-no-homo-way that he’s happy to be in Valkyrie with him.
