Summary
Arthur is burdened with a lot for an eighteen year old. He has to raise his little brother John Marston and provide for the house. He'd known Charles since grade school, but never as more than an acquaintance. Now that he lives next to him and can fully see just what Arthur has to put up with, he tries to help him every step of the way and help resume the personal life that he'd been force to put on hold.
A story about the summer Charles and Arthur truly met for the first time.

Summary
An alternate - yet equally as painful - ending to chapter six. Arthur helps John escape, life fading with the ghost of a smile, knowing his brother might live the life he never could.
But just as peace finds him, a familiar voice calls his name from the cliff he lays on, heavy with guilt, thick with the weight of their sins.

Summary
Now, however, he was alone again. Broken more than he was before, with nowhere else to go other than back to where he started, Hosea kicked his horse into a trot. Wrenching open the little bottle with shaking fingers, he took a swig, throwing his head back to savor the burn.
It would be a long journey.

Summary
“Very prepared man, aren’t you?” Arthur asked, looking into Charles’ brown eyes. Looking at him felt the same as that very night. Calm, quiet, gentle, warm.
A warm breeze passed over the pair of men as they looked at one another. Charles nodded, walking to Taima and securing his bedroll to the saddle.
“Would you…” Charles started softly, weakly. “Would you like to go hunting with me?”
Arthur thought for a moment. “I wouldn’t mind.”
It was what he needed, really. Some real time away from camp. Charles wasn’t bad company.Bookmarked by emarram
