    “I’m home,” his voice wafted through the house. Peter took a breath, trying to will the tears away. He tore his sightline off his feet, just to meet his fathers’ stare. The man was frozen, green eyes melting with pity and hurt and shame. Slowly, slowly, he opened his arms.

    Peter bit at his bottom lip, dropping his backpack to the floor as he ran into his fathers’ arms. He buried his face in his chest, curling his hands in the worn T-shirt he’d gotten his dad as a joke a few years ago.
