I leaned over and kissed him on the temple. Today Nicolas was less talkative than usual. I had thought he might be upset about something, but in the rush of happiness and love that overwhelmed me, it had completely slipped my mind. A faint shudder of his shoulders and a suppressed sob that reached my ears reminded me of the thought. Nicolas was crying!

Summary
First things first, let me say that I’ve never thought of myself as being discriminatory before. I have had plenty of gay friends and we made it through some tough times together, I never felt weird about same sex relationships. So all of this is coming out of nowhere.
Yeah, that sounds right. He’d never been discriminatory. After all, most of his friends were gay, he mused, getting an itch about how maybe that’s something he needed to dwell upon for a while. He shrugged it off, though, attributing that train of thought to the newfound homophobic turn that his subconscious was taking.
I don’t know when it started but one time that really sticks out to me is when I came home and saw him and some guy making out on the couch.
And so the quintessential "they were roommates" "omg they were roommates" reddit post fic was born.
