“You are making 12 burgers this time?” came Ilya’s voice from behind him.
“Yeah, I didn’t think eight would be enough,” Shane said, trying not to sound defensive.
“And you found a completely new recipe for this, yes? Did not just multiply the one you made earlier this week, I mean.”
“...Shut up.”
“Never. You are too boring, I need to be interesting for both of us.”
Shane’s arm stilled on the grill for just a second, the word boring prodding him right in a sore spot, like a finger pressing against a bruise.

Part 4 of "hate Rozanov, not Ilya". Shane decides to invite JJ, Hayden, and Jackie over to the cottage to have a day to themselves and to introduce them to Ilya off the ice. They're mostly on the same page now, only, Ilya won't stop calling Shane "boring", and Shane doesn't know what to make of that, nor does he know how to ask about it himself. Things are pleasant, if awkward, until Hayden and JJ catch wind of Ilya's penchant for the (endearing?) quip and confront him, unaware that Shane can hear. But how will Ilya justify himself, when he thinks that Shane isn't around?

Summary
So that’s how Hayden found himself in Shane’s hospital room with Rozanov, JJ, and Shane’s parents, Yuna and David. Shane seemed to have managed to fall asleep despite all of the commotion, his eyes shut like he hadn’t a care in the world, like he didn’t have a concussion and broken collarbone and his archrival wasn’t currently in the room with him. Hayden was thankful for whatever painkillers they had him on to allow him to sleep so soundly.
Rozanov was glancing between the four of them, the doorway, and the single window in the room, his body language guarded. Maybe he was trying to figure out if he could jump out the window and survive a fall from the fourth floor, since they were actively blocking his only other exit out of the room.
“So, you are going to tell us, yes?” JJ said through gritted teeth. “What you were doing with Hollander.”

Yet another fic where Shane high on painkillers terrorizes his loved ones, especially Ilya Rozanov. But even while high, he does pose an important question: is there any reason to hate Ilya, the person, as opposed to Rozanov, the hockey player? Does anyone other than him even know Ilya well enough to really hate him?
