Summary
The months of May through July were always magical for Mike Wheeler, whether that be because of the annual Hawkins Fourth of July celebration, or the unlimited time to hang out with friends, eat junk, or go missing all day was presented on a silver platter to him between these months—something was always so magical.
More so this summer than ever before; longing looks, movie nights in the secluded basement (where Will and Mike were free to slather each other in kisses when nobody was watching), Making out in Mike or Will’s room when the house was empty, kissing in the sickeningly-sweet thunder storms of their dreams, or even the secret touches that lit Mike’s skin a-flame for no reason whatsoever.
But what happens when said summer puts him in shambles, and forces him to finally come to terms with not only what he wants, but who he wants—strings attached this time.

Mike and Will spend a summer in a blissful no-strings-attached fling, Mike unable to come to terms with himself until they are already over.

Summary
Will’s eyes are still fixed on the broken bulb. Mike senses his apprehension, and he pokes a finger to Will’s cheek. “Come on,” he drones, turning Will’s head to face him, “it’s cute!”
“It’s embarrassing,” Will groans, head plunging to Mike’s shoulder.
And — okay. Maybe it’s a little embarrassing, sure, having to explain to the Melvald’s guy why he needs a new light bulb every two and a half weeks, but Will Byers, Mike’s boyfriend — Mike’s boyfriend! — has superpowers, and that's a marvel in and of itself.
Mike never thought that dating Will Byers would result in this many blown fuses.

Mike thinks it all started the day the Byers moved into their house.
Having sold their house in Hawkins a year and a half prior and moved to California, when they came back, and the town got put in lockdown, they didn’t have a place to go.
Mike had kindly offered up their place during dinner.

The 18-month gap between s4 and s5 told from Mike's POV with minor other POV's as the story progresses. The gap has been lengthened to encapsulate more time passing. They start at 16, but by chapter 6 they're 17 1/2 with them turning 18 chapter 32/34.
