It makes sense that Ilya’s mind would go there first. Shane said he was outside. Based on past behavior, the hotel balcony is probably the only place Ilya would expect him to be. He feels a little giddy that he gets to shock him for once.
“I’m at a club, actually.” He has to bite back a self-satisfied smile as he speaks, “With the team. Safe.”
It's quiet for a few moments before Ilya deadpans,
“Very funny joke.”

“What do you like to read then?” asked Tony.
“Stories I guess,” said Peter, with a shrug. “Ones where people find each other.”
Tony looked at him, with a questioning expression, waiting for him to elaborate.
“You know, where people who start out alone find each other, and make their own families.”
Sounded like a bunch of fairy tales to Tony, but he didn’t dare say so out loud and steal a bit hope from this boy, who only pretended he didn’t want to be adopted. Tony knew an act when he saw one. He supposed it was easier to chase people away and pretend he didn’t want a family than it was to be crushed when things didn’t work out.
Tony couldn’t say he blamed him.

He's not wearing any kind of sweater, just a short sleeved t-shirt that seems significantly tighter than is necessary. If Steve's shirt were that tight his ribs would be visible.
"Nope," the man says, leaning forward to rest one hand on the counter and hold the other out to Steve. "Bucky Barnes."

Bucky just laughs and shoves another bite of egg in his mouth, giving Steve a shrug and a full-cheeked smile. He's so damn cute Steve wants to shout at him, but he can't seem to say any of the right things. "Shoulda got you a comb for Christmas," is what he comes up with instead.
"What did you get me?"
It's Steve's turn to shrug now, and if he looks more terrified than cheeky as he does so, he can only hope Bucky doesn't catch it before Steve hurries out the door.

On December first, Steve wraps up a letter for Bucky and sets it under their Christmas tree. Now he has twenty-four days left to figure out how to tell Bucky what he wrote, face to face.
