It wasn't that Stan didn't want to meet his extended family. On the contrary- he really, really did, clinging to the hope that not everyone he was related to was as awful as his father. It was just that his dad had never given him the chance- perhaps when he was a baby, but he didn't remember that at all.
OR
Stanley Barber has never met any of his family past his mother and father. When Syd's Aunt Bev comes to visit, though, he finds that changing very quickly, and has to suddenly navigate life with his mother's cousin, an odd man who shares his name.
Suddenly, between his Uncle Stan, Uncle Bill, and Bill's brother Georgie, life feels a whole lot easier to handle. He might be okay with this after all.
