They are still here, breathing heavy while Aventurine mindlessly grinds on Ratio’s thigh as he watches, transfixed on the way the tiny crack of light cascades along the side of his face and catches the slight part of his lips, the blooming flush on his cheeks, the want in his eyes.
The situation is absurd, he’ll admit. Something is digging into Ratio’s back and he’s only just now noticed it, and Aventurine’s sunglasses, which sit on top of his head, are crooked. And despite how near they are, they’ve both somehow managed to preserve the wips of space between them and their lips.
It's stupid, too, to try to preserve something that neither of them want.

In this, Aventurine finds amusement and laughs a little. “I wanted to partake in the tradition. Can you blame me?”
“Certainly not.” Ratio’s eyes sweep across the crowd of people they’re buried in. Some eyes still linger. Not on them, but on Aventurine alone. “But you must not be aware of your beauty and the presence it commands.”
This time, Aventurine’s smile is something less than sweet and warm. “Oh trust me, I’m very aware.”

A phone rings, shrill and persistent, and it is not Veritas’.
He stops, hands still on the buttons and lips frozen on Aventurine’s.
Aventurine groans and reaches for the device. Ignores the call.
Thinking that’s the end of it, Veritas goes to kiss him again一
