He felt like he was about to drop from a great height, unsure if he would catch on the wind or plummet right into a sea of sharp rocks. “She’s ripe for the picking, Azriel,” Eris continued somewhat ravenously, unblinking. “Young, fresh-faced, dreadfully impressionable. Truly, I’m surprised she wasn’t the first snared into whoring herself out to Illyrian—”
The Autumn Prince was prepared this time, when Azriel launched from his post. His sentence turned into that damning cackle, a strange, foreign sound bursting from his mouth as he grasped Azriel's shoulders, and used the contact to winnow the two of them away.

Summary
Many fires raged to burn out the longest night, their ruthlessness a symbol of Autumn’s everlasting strength, but it still wasn't enough to chase out all the shadows for the Singer to hide in. He discreetly watched as long-haired females twirled batons with flaming tips, sending them spinning in the air for far longer than physically possible without the use of their elemental magic. Other dancers didn't rely on any tool to keep their sparks alive—they sent arcs of flame to whip around them directly from their hands, the licks of fire dancing in time with their own movements.
Azriel was glad to be safe and cool in the shadows, as beautiful and graceful as the performers were.
And, despite their alluring spectacle, he was not in Autumn on the Winter Solstice to see them.

Summary
When Flambae went to prison, it didn’t just screw him over; it screwed over his family, too. His sister was devastated, and after he joined the Phoenix Program, she made herself painfully clear: clean up your act, or you’re out of your niece’s life.
So when he gets a tentative invitation to her dance recital, Flambae takes it as his chance. He’ll show up on time. He’ll behave. He’ll take a leap and introduce his family to the guy he’s been seeing, as normal people do. Except the guy bails. The day before. Because apparently that’s “too much commitment”, whatever that means.
Now backed into a corner, Flambae needs a last-minute stand-in. Someone calm. Normal and unassuming. Someone who isn’t a walking red flag. Which is how he ends up roping the newly minted, normie dispatcher into being his pretend boyfriend for the evening— because admitting he got dumped doesn’t exactly scream I’ve got my life together.

Summary
One of the main characters - the only surviving witness to a murder - has just woken from a coma. Not only is she entirely cognizant, but the first thing that the subtitles say she asks for is a lawyer.
“What are you fucking giggling about?”
The other person that’s been paying attention is Flambae. He’s right next to Robert on the couch, his arm slung over the top behind his head. One foot is propped up on the other knee, also pointing towards Robert, which has him caged in the corner by the arm rest. It’s probably some fucked-up power move. Robert has been ignoring it just to spite him.
“It’s just not how comas work,” Robert shrugs.
“Right, and you know because you’re a fucking doctor,” Flambae quips back.
“I know because I was in one, asshole.”

During a quiet night in, Robert realizes that his coma and injuries aren't common knowledge among Z-Team.
Most of them take the information in stride with jokes aplenty.
Flambae does not.
