Summary
...spending the remainder of his life as a dog seems as good an idea as any. His bright idea was to get caught by the dog warden and tossed into a shelter. They’d look after him, keep him fed and watered and dry, even if it was probably inevitable they’d put him down in a few weeks. Maybe he’d turn back into a human briefly enough to escape and then repeat the process.
Izzy can shapeshift into a dog. He uses it to avoid his problems, but winds up creating a whole bunch more.

Stede always preens; Ed humbly assures them they only want the best for their guests, when really, every little luxury they’ve installed is for their own benefit first and foremost.
And as for his relationship with Stede – well, that’s old, too, and some days, Ed feels it.

Grace crossed the house, grabbing his laptop and flopping down across his couch. His laptop rested on the swell of his abdomen as he opened his browser and pulled up a database of symptoms and their potential causes.
Nausea. Weight gain. Increased appetite. Fatigue. Frequent urination.
He cross-referenced with an open notebook, writing down possible diagnoses. Stomach viruses, food poisoning, metabolic changes, depression, various kinds of cancers.
Pregnancy popped up a lot, too. Over and over, for every symptom. None of the other diagnoses appeared for every one of his symptoms.
“Wouldn’t that be a riot?” Grace muttered to himself. “Human parthenogenesis in the only human on an alien planet."

Eridian doctors transferred a human embryo into Grace. They didn't bother asking his permission.

Grace and Rocky are about three months into their trip to Erid when Grace is looking through the Hail Mary's manifest and wondering why on Earth they had packed, like, hundreds of caterpillar cocoons and one pound of bird feathers and remembers that he's a wizard.
so magic is real and so are aliens, which is about as believable as space radiation, visible light, and the theory of relativity (and, somehow, the story of mary poppins, grace's favorite documentary)

"Many stages in Eridian reproductive process. Rocky Adrian laying cycles finally sync up recently. So, Rocky Adrian think finally time for eggs. Adrian lay five eggs, very good. Only, strange thing happen. Rocky only lay one egg."
“Oh,” I say. “That’s unusual, right?”
"Very," Rocky hums.
My throat tightens. "Does that mean there's something wrong? Are you sick?"
Rocky makes a gesture I usually interpret as "not exactly". "Not sick," he says. "But doctors still worry. When Eridian start to make fewer eggs, this usually means laying period of life is over soon. Rocky very young for this. Rocky supposed to be in ideal time of life for laying. Rocky younger than Adrian, even." He shifts on three of his feet. Already, my mind is racing ahead, wondering -- "Doctors told Rocky to ask Grace, is this radiation side effect, question?"
