“What did Baran say?”
“Uh… Dear Trinity,” she reads. “I hope this email finds you well. Although I read your most recent interview and spoke with Samira, and it would be fully rational if you were not. I have had similar experiences over my career, and they are always difficult. As you said in your interview, the treatment of women in our position is abhorrent in many ways, but particularly the erosion of our privacy and safety. I obviously empathise with the sentiment and found your articulation of it faultless. If you ever feel like exchanging horror stories or want any tips, don’t hesitate to reach out. I know a lot of discreet coffee shops. All the best, Baran Al Hashimi.”
“P.S., Samira introduced me to your first album. You are a wonderful writer, and your voice is beautiful. I truly believe further success is inevitable for you.”
“Wow…” Dennis mutters. The second he and Trinity had learned Samira was doing a movie with Baran, he’d been reduced to a teen fan boy. He almost went into medicine because of the drama that started her career. Trinity had just said, “Would.”

Summary
Cassie stepped back as Doctor Al-Hashimi opened the door, a bag slung over one shoulder. Together, they made their way to where Dana was waiting in her car. Cassie hopped into the passenger seat as Doctor Al-Hashimi slid into the back.
"I see you've picked up a stray." Dana peered at the attending in the rearview.
"We're off shift, please call me Baran." The other woman said tiredly.
"Baran it is," Cassie answered for both of them, twisting a bit in her seat so she could address Baran. "Call me Cassie."
or: After the brutal fourth of July shift, Dana and Cassie let Baran into their home and show her that maybe the people of the Pitt aren't so bad, after all.

Summary
When Trinity gets the opportunity to toss her drink on an entitled man badgering a woman who clearly isn’t interested, she takes it. She doesn't think it'll be anything more than stress relief—an opportunity to let out the aggression she feels at getting stood up in a bar she can’t afford.
Trinity doesn’t think anything of it. Until she meets the woman he was bothering. Baran Al-Hashimi, beautiful, intelligent, and—inexplicably—interested. The only stipulation to their friendship is this: they can't talk about work. They agree, not knowing that they're both doctors, unaware that Baran will be Trinity's boss in just a few short months.

What if Trinity meets Baran before she starts working at PTMC?

Summary
Al-Hashimi laughed again, almost mockingly. The mean lilt of it was so far removed from the emotionless, hyper-professional image Santos had built of Al-Hashimi in her mind that it stunned her into silence.
"I'm afraid you may have misplaced your faith," Al-Hashimi bit back.
In a rundown diner at five o'clock in the morning on July 5th, Santos loses one hero and finds another.

Summary
She could pick one.
That was the whole point of being unhived—she was free, she had preferences now, she could reach out and take any bread she wanted off any shelf and put it in the cart and that would be fine. That was what free people did. They chose bread. It was not complicated. People used to do it every day before the Joining and none of them had a breakdown over it.
OR: Post-unhiving. Zosia goes grocery shopping with Carol, can't choose bread, and cooks dinner with a dead woman's recipe.
