“It's perfect." He says, voice dropping low as he tilts his head back against Robby’s shoulder. Dennis looks out in front of them through the large glass windows that fill the back wall of the room to watch the snow covered hills that extended out into the backyard. They look like a dream.
“Yeah?” Robby asks, kissing the side of his Adam’s apple. The air of his murmur against his throat sends a bigger chill down his spine then the weather outside. “You should see the bedroom.”

“What’s wrong?” Robby says, voice suddenly a little more awake. He hears another rustle of sheets over the static.
“Nothing.” Dennis reassures quickly and then feels like an idiot again for making it seem like this was any other type of emergency than one of his heart being too big. “I’m sorry. I just- I can’t sleep.”
And I miss you and I wish that I was there with you now. I wish I’d had the courage to ask. I wish I was with you all the time. Twelve hours a day doesn't seem to be enough.

Summary
He slows in the middle, he thinks, eyes following the current beneath him. He can see Liberty Bridge in the distance, downriver. The jump doesn’t look that high from here, with the distance, but it must be. High enough, at least. Christopher Sinclair was missing one of his shoes when EMS brought him in. Maybe it’s still floating down there, somewhere, or sunk to the bottom with the glasses Dennis's mind has convinced him that Christopher Sinclair had.
There were nights that I thought about jumping off one of them.
It’s Robby’s voice, pulled from the back of Dennis’s brain, clearer than any of the things actually happening around him. A walk after a bad shift. A view of the river, of the bridges lit up. And Robby, back early from his sabbatical with no warning, confessing to Dennis the thoughts that scare him most.
Dennis blinks, and he’s across the bridge. He doesn’t look back.

Dennis goes home to his family after a difficulty shift.

The shadows twist before him in the waning amber sunlight; ink-dark and quiet, the soil stiff beneath his heels. Twilight engulfs the forest, where the darkness melts into smog. Dewdrops, moss; the sweet, rotting scent of flesh curls around him, and sits — thick and viscous like honey — atop his pale skin.
The wind softly keens in Dennis’ ears, a thin sound like distant wind chimes tinkling. He sits, almost alone, in that park. Robby presses his face into a warming can of beer, staring firmly at his feet.
Wheat, bread, god; he repeats it like a prayer.
