It’s happening more and more often these days.

He’s been furious, terrified, heartbroken; he’s let his hands grow so tainted that he hesitates to touch the world, let the black in his soul harm those closest to him, let it drive him to secrets and cruelties and forbidden spells in pursuit of a cure, of answers, of just one more day to try. Qifrey has ruined beautiful things and prevented new ones from being born, has rent himself into a shape that breaks through the world, has stolen each new moment of his life or paid for it in blood and memories. He has crafted a life of suffering and placed everything he cares about atop its precarious sill.

The cafe where Ignis and Gladio have lunch on Tuesdays isn't particularly busy this week. It's a good thing, because Ignis doesn't want to broach this subject where someone might overhear and report it back to the tabloids. "Tell me," he says, when their server has brought their meals, "has Noctis ever spoken to you of any…romantic inclinations?"
Gladio chokes on his sandwich, and has to take a few long drinks of water. Ignis hadn't thought it was that shocking of a question, but perhaps Gladio's misunderstood his intent. He's about to clarify when Gladio says, "He talked to you about Prompto too?"

Some of the answers are: falling in love with a bunch of your friends, taking the world map by a whole new route, and finding out things you really need to know but were a lot more comfortable forgetting.

“You think I’d try to modify this?” Prompto squeaks, looking down at the suit incredulously. “I think this is worth more than my house!”
“Just last year, you tore the sleeves off a forty-two-thousand-yen midgardsormr leather jacket,” Ignis says with a severe glare, suppressing a shudder at the memory. “A genuine midgardsormr leather jacket.”
“It looks better without them,” Prompto says in a small voice, and, really, Ignis agrees, it does look better, and he cannot help but appreciate the sight whenever Prompto wears it. Admitting it would be conceding to Prompto’s ongoing war with sleeves, however, and, if there’s one thing Ignis does not do, it’s concede defeat.
