Enid Sinclair is known to her coworkers as the "Calmity Jane" of the Jericho ER. She can handle anything. Non-compliant patients are her jam.
But there's something different about this patient. This one is promptly labeled a troublemaker...but she immediately goes soft as a kitten for Enid, and it's really, *really* hard to stay professional under such circumstances. “Just when I thought I’d seen the depravity of your kind at its fullest. Stealing a poor dog’s ball?” Shadowheart makes a grab for the ball; Lae’zel tosses it to her other hand, grimacing at the sheen of drool it leaves behind. “For what purpose? Just to ruin the day of a being actually capable of feeling joy?”
“By the hells, Shadowheart, she’s taking the thing for a bloody walk,” Wyll says from his tent.
“A walk,” Shadowheart repeats, crossing her arms. “Why?”
“I assume the animals of this world require some amount of exercise if they’re not to collapse under the weight of their own atrophying muscles,” Lae’zel says. “But you wouldn’t know, would you? Do the disciples of Shar pre-kill their pets so they can skip right to the loss?”

Summary
Poetry is the only way Shadowheart knows to process the endless loneliness she has felt ever since her parents passed away. She pours her feels into poems and drops them into the void of the internet via Tumblr. She doesn't do it for the notes and the re-blogs, but they certainly don't hurt, even if she never replies to any of them. When a new person, LZ, begins to interact with her poems and then reaches out to her, Shadowheart takes the risk of replying, but she could never imagine the ways that risk would change her life.

Lae'zel had nothing left.
She'd lost her girlfriend, her job, and her will to keep going all in six months. So when Wyll invites her to his club, Hell's Bells, in an attempt to cheer her up, Lae'zel expects nothing from it. She does it largely to indulge him.
It's there she meets Wyll's friend Shadowheart -- a disk jockey who plays at his club. She's rude, she's blunt, she's nihilistic, she's very forward. But most of all, she's infuriatingly beautiful. She is everything Lae'zel didn't know she wanted. She is terrifying.
Lae'zel keeps returning anyway.
Modern AU - Shadowheart is a DJ, Lae'zel is a sad little puppy, and together they bring out the worst in each other. But also the best. And, in the end, the best of them wins. A tale of heartbreak, loss, recovery and, ultimately, connection.
