The lights in the diner cast a neon purple glow over Benson’s face where he was looking over the menu, and Randy could feel his stomach tighten, tighten, tighten like a coil about to explode. At this rate, if Benson didn’t let him go to the bathroom he was going to vomit right there at the table, whether it be from the weight of the phone digging into the space right beneath his ribs or the ghost-like grime of blood he could still feel sitting slick and hot on his hands no matter how many times he had washed them in the time since.
