Snufkin tried for a handful of moments to draw himself in, to memorise the exquisite burn, the sound of Moomin’s enraptured cry, his own pleasure ripping through him like tinder thrown on a burning pyre, but he lost the mind for it almost at once.

"The - necklace. Thing. Courting. Me?" Grace chokes out.
Rocky stares.
"You are trying to court an Eridian?" He says dumbly.

It takes Rocky one year to realize how much he loves his human.
It takes Grace four times as long to realize that that love is reciprocated.

The engineer takes my hand. His skin runs hot. Very hot. He doesn't let go at what I would gauge as a socially-acceptable handshake time interval. Are we just holding hands in the middle of the lab-workshop space? Guess we are.
"I'm Rocky," he finally introduces himself. He has a hint of an accent, something lilting, melodic. I can't really place it.
"Rocky," I repeat, slowly. "Like the movies?"
"No," Rocky deadpans, giving me a look like I'm stupid. "Like the rocks."

“This is not fair! How could my Grace do this to me? He took on a mate!” Rocky yelled angrily.
Now that caught Adrian’s attention. He paused his work and tilted his carapace to properly regard Rocky. “So that’s the problem. And the reason you're acting like this,” he commented.
“What do you think?” Rocky snapped. “You did not tell me about this! So imagine my surprise when I learned that Grace has been courting—and being courted by—some random Eridian you picked up off the streets!”
He pushed himself upright, stomping angrily around the room while Adrian simply watched.

or grace and his new bodyguard becomes mates, rocky is left reeling at the fact that he was not the first choice on that matter even if he made it clear he wanted for him and grace to be mates (except grace is highly oblivious)

“Would it help––should I bring my dinner in too?” Grace jokes, smiling in preparation for the absolute symphony of disgusted whistles he knows Rocky will produce at the thought of them doing something as depraved as sharing a meal. “I’ve been saving this week’s half packet of ramen for just such an occasion––”
A torrent of sound not unlike four harmonizing freight train whistles bursts from Rocky, the shifting plates of carapace at the top of what Grace thinks of as his “head-and-torso” rattling rapidly. Twin puffs of superheated air escape his vents, and there’s a ringing in Grace’s ears as he watches a glass beaker vibrate itself off the edge of the lab table near them and onto the floor with a loud clang. He squeezes his eyes shut, bracing for a shatter that never arrives, then stares in disbelief at the scene before him.
[YES YES YES!] Rocky’s translator app suddenly blares from the laptop on the floor between them. [YES ACCEPT ACCEPT ACCEPT! GRACE RAMEN ♪♫♪♫ WITH ROCKY, ACCEPT! GRACE ROCKY EAT ♪♫♪♫ MEAL TOGETHER AFFIRMATIVE YES YES AFFIRMATIVE NOW.]
