Summary
Donatello considered himself, nay, deemed himself the greatest mind of his generation. He was known for his skills as a scientist, inventor, engineer and was a technological genius. Dare he throw in that he was a damn good brother and held the title of being 1/4th ‘Protector of New York City’.
He could barely fathom that he didn’t piece together that the pretty barista he was falling for was simultaneously his gaming buddy (might he add, for the last eight years) and was working for Big Mama.
At this very moment, Donatello was sure of two things in his life. One of them being his life was a joke and the second being that he was fraternizing with the enemy.
All because he decided to run errands whilst donning his cloaking brooch.
Alternatively: Donnie falls in love. It’s just very complicated.

Grace startles at the suggestion. He quickly scans the last paragraph of the biometrics report he was reading, sure he must’ve swapped whatever words Rocky just uttered with some sentence on plant cell bodies. His friend just makes a clicking sound in his throat and leans closer, since Grace is clearly hard of hearing.
“See Grace’s body, yes,” Rocky spoke with factual precision, like this wasn’t something wild to spring on a guy alone… in his dormitory… on his bed, where the both of them were currently lounging.
“Rocky want to see how Human body different from Eridani.”

Summary
“How long do humans live for, question. Rocky want to know.”
Rocky stamps his claw impatiently on the flat surface of his xenonite ball as he asks, a skittery, jittery movement that rattles in Ryland’s ears.
He sighs. Rubs at his temples. Thinks about how to answer this as diplomatically as physically possible, as at ease as physically possible.
It’s not that he cares much about the fact he’ll be dead long long before Rocky. He doesn’t care about that. He’s probably going to die a whole lot sooner than your average human, anyway, considering his diet of coma-slurry and Taumoeba and little else. Besides, he’s been in space for longer than anybody has been in the history of ever. That’s sure to do messed-up things to his bones and joints and mass and everything. But it doesn’t matter. He’s made peace with that. For-real made peace, because any time more is a thousand times over what he thought he’d get.
What does matter is that Rocky has no idea that there’s probably only about fifty years left in his tank.

Or: the average male human lifespan is 80 years. Rocky doesn't know that.

Eridian brains shut down completely when they sleep, that’s why they watch over each other during their sporadic sleep cycles. There’s absolutely no activity going on in there, except for the individual worker organisms going around and fixing things up. Eridian’s brains “reactivate” once their bodies are good and ready to wake up, and not earlier. The point is, they don’t experience anything remotely similar to human dreams.
So, how do I explain nightmares to someone who literally cannot dream?

OR, Ryland Grace is more deeply affected by their experiences with life and death than he lets on... at least while awake. As his and Rocky's mission progresses, sleep becomes something Grace dreads, for fear of what his unconscious mind will put him through.
