    Summary

The courtyard suddenly became too silent. No one dared to move. Smoke drifted in slow, uneven ribbons, curling around broken concrete and scorched metal.

At the center of it all stands the Sentry.

Golden light hums faintly beneath his skin, flickering like something barely contained. His arms are wrapped around Yelena—too tight, too careful, like she might disappear if he loosens his grip. Her head rests against his chest. Her breathing shallow.

    Or,

A few months after the disaster that nearly consumed New York, the team embarks on a new mission and Bob is forced to join them. It suddenly spirals out of control and Bob instinctively transforms into the Sentry to protect Yelena.

This first chapter is more of an intro. In later chapters, the team quickly learns that the Sentry, Bob, and the Void do not share the same memories. What no one knows is that their emotions drift freely between the three, blurring the line between separate people and a single soul. The team struggles to earn Sentry’s trust as he battles old memories of him fighting them off, and intense feelings that compel him to protect Yelena at all costs.

“So, your robot picked up on some weird space activity and you…” she squints. “Just decided to take a spaceship to see what’s up?”

“Well…yes,” Reed says. Again, like it’s obvious. “That’s what we do. We’re—” he stops and studies her. “You really don’t know who we are?”

Darcy glances around the lab, where half her monitors are filling with information being scanned and gathered from their docked ship, at the nervous interns who insist on wearing full hazmat suits clustered near the door. “I feel like it’s pretty obvious that no one here knows who you are,” she says after a moment.

    “We’re the Fantastic Four.”

She stares at him for a moment. “Did you come up with that name yourselves?”

"I have memory problems," he explains.

"Okay," she says, no judgment in her voice. "When did that start?"

When I started popping morphine pills like candy. "Middle school."

Dr. Sterman — no, Andie's — pen stops moving. "That's young."

Maybe it is. He wouldn't know. Bob has felt ancient his entire fucking life.

    He shrugs.

AKA: Post-Thunderbolts*, Bob Reynolds finally sees a therapist outside of an emergency situation for the first time in his life. Between his memory issues and all of his records being incinerated, he has to retrace his medical history with the help of his psychiatrist, Andrea Sterman. There are a few mistakes along the way.

AKA: What if you put a superpowered bipolar guy onto an antidepressant and triggered a manic switch?

“Son of a fuckin’ bitch, you fucking shot me! You actually fucking shot me!” Walker said, more so in disbelief at the moment than the pain itself, though that was catching up fast and making him regret every decision that led him here.
Bob promptly dropped the gun, his face paling while his eyes shot up to meet Walker’s.
“I’m so sorry! Don’t tell Yelena!” he squeaked.
    Seriously?!
He balked at him. “Why is that the first thing you’re worried about and not the gaping hole in my arm?!”

Or: Walker decided to teach Bob how to use a gun because no one else wanted to. However, it goes spectacularly wrong when he accidentally misfires, and they now have to hide it from the team during movie night. What could go wrong?
