Several years had passed since Mike and his friends graduated high school. Things had changed especially when Mike and Dustin had started dating that following summer, especially keeping it a secret. Mike was in love with Will ever since they were kids but was too scared to confess and feared rejection. Will didn't know that until many years later when he was already dating Chance.
Something that no one expected that Mike and Dustin married in 1991 and sent out invitations to their friends and families but Will never showed up assuming that he didn't want to go. But in reality Will did get the invitation but thought it was junk mail.
