His ears flatten, his eyes widen, and it looks like all the blood has drained from his face. It’s a really odd reaction to the most obvious facts.
“What do you mean, made me?” he asks with something that is probably supposed to be a nervous chuckle.
Amity rolls her eyes because she’s never met anyone this bad with metaphors.
“He’s raised you, shaped you, indoctrinated you, sharpened you into a weapon,” she explains, and she doesn’t understand why he relaxes at that. “A knife that changes an owner is still a knife, you know?”
“Ah.” He sends her an inappropriately toothy smile. “So you think I’m a tool.”
“Yeah, a massive one,” she sniggers.(Or: Hunter's showing a lot of symptoms, and Amity's really bad at interpreting them. But there's also a really cool, really round potato Hunter presents to Willow).

Shauna hates her life, but won’t make a change. She's closed off, isolated, and waiting for some kind of divine intervention or sign from above (or below).
Intervention comes in the form of literal signs shoved into her mailbox, taped to her door, and placed neatly under the windshield wipers of her minivan.
Or
Shauna thinks she’s being followed and harassed by a cult and ends up infatuated and a little flattered by the attention of the organization's leader.

“No, you guys, this is insane. Insane!” Jackie laughs- she has to laugh or she thinks she might cry. “God, you know what, whatever. I don't want to think about this right now. Which way to the cabin?”
Akilah freezes. Lottie’s eyes widen imperceptibly. What now?
“It’s gone. Coach Scott burned it down.” Akilah says, meekly. “Or at least, that’s what people think? I’m not sure. He confessed, but some of the others thought he didn’t do it.” She heaves a sigh, gesturing to the left, beginning to plod through the snow. “It’s gone now, and- and he’s gone too, but, well… camp is this way.”
A gentle hand lands on Akilah’s shoulder. “No.” Lottie says breathlessly, voice soft, words meant only for her. “No, Akilah. We should take her the other way, steer closer to the others. To the hunt.”
Or, what if the Wilderness bestowed upon them one last miracle?
What if it gave them back their captain?
