“Whoa. Pretty.”
Jin dropped the apple core he’d finished with and pulled his mask up over his face then turned towards the sound of the unfamiliar voice. It certainly was a surprise to see a guy with gray wolf ears atop his head standing there, as this part of the forest was largely unoccupied.
The werewolf’s mouth hung open in shock, like some kind of moron, which just barely showed the tips of his fangs. Jin’s gaze shifted upwards. His eyes were so blue. Maybe the bluest eyes Jin had ever seen. And all of that was meaningless. Jin wasn’t so easily impressed.
He turned back around without so much as a grunt in acknowledgment. He’d been minding his own business when the guy arrived, and he intended on going back to doing just that. Surely, the guy would take the hint and leave. The tall, blond fox ears atop his own head twitched when the werewolf spoke once again.
“I just mean–! Your tails!” The werewolf exclaimed. “They look nice and soft!”
Jin’s three fox tails swayed elegantly as he turned to look at him again. His gaze fell to the wiry, gray mess of a tail behind the guy. Unkempt. Probably full of dirt if he had to guess. He had no interest in this uncouth being.

Shiki was so focused on his current task that he never heard anyone approach his workstation. As such, he jumped when someone suddenly spoke to him.
“You a mama’s boy?”
“The hell’d you just say to me?” Shiki growled before he ever even lifted his head to see who dared speak to him like that. Of all the asinine questions he’d been asked…
The stranger motioned towards Shiki’s left shoulder with his chin. He blinked. Oh yeah. Shiki was wearing a sleeveless tee today, which left his ink on full display. He totally forgot about the tattoo there.
When it came to his own ink, he only ever really saw the red flames with bright blue tips that ran all the way up his right arm and shoulder to his neck in his day-to-day life. The stupid trad heart with the ribbon that said Mom on the other side was literally never on his mind.
With the question suddenly a lot less sinister, Shiki held up his hands in a shrug and replied, “Nah, man. I got that one as an act of rebellion against my old man who raised me on his own.”
The blond’s eyebrows furrowed and he muttered, “That doesn’t make any sense.”

Sakura reminds him what a hypocrite he's being, and that sometimes a leap of faith is worth the risk.
