Shadow is on a mission.
It's the same mission he's been on, ever since discovering something about himself he never knew. He's changed because of that discovery. He's someone better than the person he used to be.
After tracking down a crime syndicate and the trafficking ring they run, he's determined to follow through on his goal to protect the ones that need it most.

Sonic the Hedgehog has a goal.
It's a goal he's been working towards in secret. The only one that knows why is the person he trusts more than anyone else. If he can keep even one person from experiencing what he did, he's accomplished that goal.
When he learns that G.U.N is going to "rescue" people taken captive by traffickers, people like him, he makes it his mission to get there and truly set them free.
(A rewrite of In the Shadows of Our Sanctum, because that was more of a very rough draft than anything else. The original will stay up for those that enjoyed it!)

There was excitement everywhere in the kingdom.
The people of Camelot were rushing too and fro as they cleaned the streets and prepared for the celebration of the King’s return. It had been so many years since he had last been to their kingdom! The world had turned on and on, and while so much had changed, it always seemed as if Camelot remained stuck despite the attempts of the steward of the throne, Lancelot.
No longer! Their king had finally returned, and with him, the path to regain their former glory would become clear!

Summary
Dark saw and pursued Light even more, until Light was in their grasp. Together at last, Dark bonded with Light, and their coupling was felt throughout the Earth. Those that were ensnared by their touch went into a frenzy, seeking their opposite out until they were found and bonded as Light and Dark were bound.
With their blessings given and Earth revitalized, both sank back into the core and went back into slumber.
Earth was filled and their blessings passed on and on…
That bit of scripture was a well-known one. It was passed around, through words or through writing. Omegas would whisper it to their children that were feverish and limp while they laid in bed. Alphas would tell it proudly to their own before they would prowl and search for relief, any relief, from the urges they felt.
At least, that was the case if they were part of the dwindling Church of Gaia.
Shadow never had anyone to guide him through his own experiences. The Ark scientists hadn't created him with any intent of making him go through any of that in the first place. It had been the exact opposite, actually.

Of course Sonic isn't mad. He's not just the fastest runner alive, he's quick to forgive, too. That's part of the pang in Silver's chest. He knows that Sonic is the exception. Sonic will forgive him no matter what.
Don't lie to me, Silver thinks. Please don't lie to me.
But Sonic does. He says, "Shadow just needs some time. He'll come back."

Summary
Mighty, Knuckles, and Shadow are knights sworn to protect the Prince of the Underground, a duty made difficult by Sonic's selfless courage. A chance encounter with Imperial mercenaries ends with Sonic's capture. It's a relief when his knights come to the rescue just in time; before the mercenaries use Sonic to indulge their darkest desires, and just as the potion designed to make him beg for it starts to kick in. The knights would lay their lives down for their prince, but they're just as eager to service him in other ways.
