“Do you know this name, ‘Shane Hollander’?”
The kid looked at Shane, chewing his lip and frowning a little, before turning back to Rozanov. “I think so, yes.”
    “Who is he?
    “Uh… a hockey player?”
“No,” Rozanov said in a harsh, cutting tone. “He is no one. Because he is on my ice. Understand?”

To help with his edge control, the Metros' coach recommends Shane take figure skating lessons with someone named Ilya Rozanov. Rozanov is rude, abrasive, and insists he will only teach Shane in a group class for kids. Shane, a rookie hell-bent on proving himself and unwilling to disappoint his coach, refuses to give up despite how much Rozanov tries to humiliate him each lesson.

    Summary

Shane was gay. That was the entire point of this whole thing. He was a man who loved another man. And he was a man

He was a professional athlete, nearly six feet tall, just about 200 pounds. But for every single thing about him that he felt like served to qualify him as a man, it was like Ilya had somehow turned the dial up to eleven.

    And Shane loved it.

or, five times that Shane is overwhelmed by his husband's masculinity and one time that Ilya realizes he is not the man of the house.

    Summary

Based very loosely on events from The Long Game that my brain wanted to put into the first book, somewhere between Shane’s injury, and before Scott Hunter wins the cup - for maximum angst, obviously.

What if Ilya’s plane had actually crashed? And what if it had happened before he and Shane had the chance to confess their love and know what it was like to be together.

    Or

A fic so I could write a really needy Shane who can't hide his feelings anymore, and an Ilya who is faced with the undeniable truth that someone cares for him.

    Summary

"You're supposed to smoke over there." Someone said from behind Ilya.

Ilya almost dropped his cigarette. His English was shitty, but he had studied that sentence enough times over the years to understand it immediately. He didn't even think about his words much anymore, but it was impossible to avoid them.

He turned instinctively, and was face to face with Shane fucking Hollander.

Out of almost seven billion people, of course Ilya's soulmate had to be his fated rival. It was almost poetic. Still, Ilya had enough sense to realize just how bad this was.

or, Shane says Ilya's soulmate words. Ilya vows to never speak a word to him to keep him from finding out. They fall in love anyway.

Just another North & South continuation. As much as I love the train station scene, I always found the book's ending to be more believable for the time period. This work merges elements from both the mini-series and the book.
