Summary
“Excuse me?” To Rozanov’s merit, he does not shout the words. Instead, he says them with the calm acceptance of disbelief. “I think I must have heard you wrong. You said that you—”
“Want you to marry me, yes,” says Shane, impatiently.
or: In order to gain his fair share of his grandfather’s sizable inheritance, Shane Hollander must be wed. And in this moment of desperation, there is—unfortunately—only one person he can think to turn to.

Summary
“Am not a coward, Hollander,” Rozanov interrupts his rambling, and even his eyebrows manage to look—not displeased but disapproving? Shane is not quite sure what to make of the current expression on his face.
“Um,” says Shane. “What?”
Rozanov gestures between the two of them, almost impatient. “I can pretend to date you for a bit to please the monkeys in the circus. Everybody thinks we are dating now, anyway, so we might as well use it. And paparazzi are stupid. Even though Scott Hunter is a prick, he is a prick that does not deserve this kind of negative attention.” He shrugs, almost casual, and looks Shane up and down. “Plus, am into boys as well as girls. Is honestly not a problem for me.”
or: Shane digs himself quite a big hole, and now everyone believes he is dating none other than Ilya Rozanov. This would be no problem if he and Ilya 1) were indeed dating and 2) could actually stand each other.

Summary
Ilya has no problem being on the same hockey team as Shane Hollander. He has no problem living with him either. Despite the fact that Shane’s a stickler for rules, probably has a stick up his ass, and always looks a little bit tortured when they make eye contact, their lives are far enough removed from each other that a bare minimum of interaction is no problem. No, the problems start later—when Shane starts sleepwalking into Ilya’s bed.

Summary
My Shane is a little bit like a prickly kitten, he can admit to himself, fondly, as he dozes off. In the quiet of his own head, he concedes that his love for cats did grow bigger after growing closer to Shane. He thinks of a sleep-rumpled Shane, hair sticking up at the sides, sweet face narrowed into grumpy compliance. Shane would be the kind of cat who’d narrow their eyes in suspicion at a stretched-out hand, but his twitching tail would belie his attempt at disinterest. Though I wish it was as easy to know what he is thinking as it is with an actual cat.
or: Be careful (or not) what you wish for.

Summary
So yeah, the thing. The gene. Sometimes you have it and nothing happens. And sometimes, like Shane is experiencing right now, everything changes. Technically, he had already passed the window in which the gene normally expresses itself. But clearly biology does not care about strict confines. Clearly—because after Shane hangs up the call with his mother, he peels back his top lip with trembling fingers and stares at the little fangs poking down through the roof of his mouth.
or: As it turns out, Yuna did not only give him his half-Japanese heritage and his mild (or major) obsession with hockey, and now Shane has to grapple with the fact that everything he thought he knew about himself is shifting. Why the hell does Ilya Rozanov smell so damn delectable?

Summary
Yuna pours him a glass of ice cold homemade lemonade without asking and hands it to him across the kitchen island, then announces, “Just as a heads up, me and David will leave for Japan over the weekend. My cousin invited us to spend the summer there at her lake house, and we could hardly say no to that. I will leave you a pair of keys so that you can still come and go.”
Wide-eyed, Ilya blinks at her. “Um?”
“You won’t be all alone,” says Yuna, immediately. “We have a son. Shane?”
or: Ilya has been asked to fix up the Hollander house over summer. Shane Hollander, the elusive son of the family, returns to town after thirteen years to watch over said house. The next six weeks are going to be incredibly interesting.

It is easy to hate Ilya Rozanov; easier than to like him, at least. It would be easier to keep hating him if he wasn't everywhere that Shane also was.

Summary
Harua looks at Nicholas, then grins, his head tilting to the side. He even flutters his eyelashes a little bit, going for his most innocent look. “Wouldn’t you say it kind of looks like Euijoo-hyung?”
“Oh, um, what?” stutters Nicholas, intelligent. He goes beet red between one second and the next.
or: Unbeknownst to either Euijoo or Nicholas, the maknaes have made a bet.

If Taki’s being honest with himself, he does not care about Harua-and-Maki’s love story and he definitely does not care where he stands with regards to them. Except that he is a big fat liar, and he does care where he stands, but only because stupid Maki hasn’t kissed him yet. And Taki is a good boy, so he’s been waiting patiently, but even good boys have their limits, apparently—

Summary
Clearly in the mood to be mysterious, Hao only shrugs at him. “I put in a bit of this and that—friendship, a sprinkle of joy, the wish for us to become dear neighbours. And, of course, good quality pumpkin spice. It’s autumn after all.”
Hanbin narrows his eyes. “Keep your secrets, I guess.”
At those words, Hao bites his lip, something delighted blooming in his gaze. “You’ll just have to try harder if you want to figure me out, neighbour Hanbin.”
or: When a new cafe opens next to Hanbin’s flower shop, Hanbin can’t help but be suspicious. The decor is just too charming, the drinks too comforting, and the workers too sweet. And don’t even get him started on the cafe’s owner, Hao—who is as beautiful as he is an absolute thorn in Hanbin’s side.

Summary
Because, when it comes to Nicholas, everything always comes back to Euijoo. It would make sense that his Twitter account is no different.
or: Nicholas runs a lovesick, anonymous Twitter account where he dumps all of his feelings for his best friend in the form of poetic tweets. When the account goes viral overnight, Nicholas has to deal with thousands of people trying to figure out who he is, while also trying not to fall even harder for someone he can never have. It is not a problem. It won’t be a problem, because Euijoo will never find the account. Right?

Summary
Nicholas looks at Fuma, looks at Yūdai. He purses his lips. “Do the two of you also think that Euijoo has been looking . . . stressed, lately?”
Yūdai sounds weary when he speaks. “Like, more than usual, you mean?”
or: Nicholas has had a lot of stupid ideas in his life. This one probably takes the cake.

Summary
In steps what must be the teacher’s assistant, Euijoo. Nicholas looks at him, looks away, and then immediately looks back, this time with intent. Euijoo’s taller than Nicholas would have expected, and moves with the grace of a puppy that has grown into his limbs overnight and still can’t quite decide on where to put all of them, bumping into the lectern as he walks towards the professor. His hair is styled into a quite frankly atrocious bowl cut, and tapioca pearl eyes peer into the class from behind rectangular, thick-rimmed glasses, giving him the air of a vaguely confused goldfish. Most of the lines of his body are hidden below the chunkiest sweater vest despite the already pleasant weather, and to top it off, he is wearing chinos.
Nicholas doesn’t think he’s ever wanted anyone more.
or: Perpetually tired fashion design student Nicholas does not think there is anything worse than the Statistics class he is forced to attend if he wants to graduate. In walks Byun Euijoo, the teacher’s assistant, who is nerdy, awkward, and quite possibly the man of Nicholas’ dreams.

Summary
Anything in this court can be taken away by the Emperor and his closest ministers, if they so pleased, so Hao had long given up on the thought of having something that was truly hers.
Hanbin is definitely what comes closest to that, though.
or: As a concubine at the Emperor’s court, Hao had never expected to meet someone like Hanbin, who holds her so delicately, smiles at her with such sweet eyes, and who teaches her the most important lesson—that love can truly bloom anywhere.

Summary
As he finishes speaking, Yūdai turns to Nicholas with an intense gaze. Nicholas almost imagines hearing him ask, Where are your roots, Nicholas?
I would like to put my roots down where Euijoo is also, Nicholas would probably reply, if he was being really honest with himself, if he dared to speak those words out loud and have them become true in that way. I bloom most splendidly whenever he is looking at me, after all.
or: You’d think that Nicholas would have this whole being in love with your best friend thing figured out after six years. Euijoo kissing him complicates matters.

Summary
“Are you—are you sure this is okay?” Hanbin gasps, tilting his head back.
Hao huffs and curls his fingers around Hanbin’s jaw so that he can pull him forward again, his breath brushing against Hanbin’s slightly parted lips. “Kissing is just part of the deal, Hanbin-ah,” he says, almost kindly. “You want to help hyung out, don’t you?”
