Merlin fails to light a fire for the night, due to the storm’s interference, and with no other way to keep warm, they settled in closely for the night. When sleep doesn’t arrive easily for Arthur, Merlin confronts him about what’s occupying his mind.

Merlin stiffens again, looking as though he’s braced for ridicule, and Arthur knows immediately that he can’t rescind the words. “Why would you want that?”
“Come on, Merlin. I can’t exactly have my servant being better at something than I am, now can I?”

Three months after lifting the ban on magic, Arthur catches Morgana and Merlin practicing a spell together. After initially struggling to come to terms with, he asks to be taught a spell as a gesture of acceptance. He is shocked to learn that magic is hard, and Merlin is actually quite good at it. Summary
After a kiss caused by mead and years of longing, Arthur realises that Merlin has magic but doesn't tell him. He finds that he can't stop loving Merlin and now that he knows just how heavy a weight he's been carrying, he can't stop comforting in his darkest times, either - despite Merlin being unwilling to start officially courting out of fear and concern for what would happen if Arthur knew. Little does he know all Arthur wants is to make it better. It all turns out sweet in the end.

“I wouldn’t touch the Major Arcana.” Arthur startled, nearly dropping the cards. He whirled around to the voice. “They get twitchy.”
An ornamental crystal ball fell onto the floor behind him, shattering into millions of tiny pieces.
Behind him was a man, probably near Arthur’s age. He registered the wide, bright eyes, pale skin, and dark hair. Arthur hadn’t heard him approach. Where did he come from?
“The—” Arthur’s eyes jumped back to the magician card, “Major Arcana?”
That sounded sort of... magicky
“Yes, yes, they get so full of themselves.” The man’s lips twitched, and Arthur was inexplicably drawn to the hint of his grin.
Or, a lot can happen when you take cover under a random shop's awning. Mostly, Arthur just wants to figure out why 'The Magician' card is always his future.
