“Where’d you hear it,” Harrington says, finally.
Eddie gestures up. Around in a circle. Then just watches his hand travel in the air, distracted by his own rings. “Thanks man, yeah, that helps so much,” Harrington says, meanly, when the pause stretches on. “Great fucking talking to you.”
“Does it matter where?”
“Kind of why I asked,” Harrington says.
Eddie pushes himself upright.
“Your—young squire,” he says. “Has a lot of—biology homework. Of late.”
“Fuck,” Harrington says.

Summary
Steve Harrington goes from living at the Catholic orphanage where his parents dumped him after his father’s business failed during the early years of the Great Depression, to essentially indentured to wealthy—and shady—businessman, Henry Creel. There, he works in The Rose Room, a ballroom where pretty omegas sell their companionship for ten cents a dance.
Business is booming, and Creel decides to upgrade from a gramophone to a live band which brings Eddie Munson back into Steve’s orbit. All the while, Creel leers after his young ward, slowly crossing line after line.
To cope, Steve escapes into his imagination, placing himself in fairy tale fantasies where the brave omega is saved by a noble and good alpha, a certain Sir Edward…
Fortunately, in the real world, his Eddie is just as ready to rescue him.

Eddie had Poppy and every time he looked at her tiny little face, all he could think was how unworthy he felt.
But Steve—Steve was fucking built for this shit. He held Poppy in his strong arms so gently and he bottle fed her, changed her diaper, played her classical music, talked to her like she was a fully grown adult because he’d read somewhere that it would help with a kid’s development.
Eddie wasn’t cut out for being a father, much less a single father. But he never was a single father, not really. Not with Steve. Steve was always there. Self-assured, offering to look after little seedling and forcing Eddie to go hop in the shower, eat something, take care of himself in a way he hadn’t known how to do in those first few endless weeks.
And Eddie thought that maybe—
He’d thought—
He was so sure that they could’ve been a family.
