The echo of officers, pen clicking, and footsteps were the sounds John had grown accustomed to after what happened that day.

Steve and Danny defied the odds when they met in the dusty McGarrett garage. Now, after four years of settling into a platonic soulmate relationship, Steve leaves Hawaii to follow Catherine to Afghanistan, rushing to the aid of her old friend. Steve and Danny’s soul bond is put under pressure when the Taliban capture Steve, and both face the real possibility that Steve won’t make it out alive. If he does, it might just be time to re-evaluate their bond, and the need they have for each other.

This is an Episode-Adjacent slowish-burn McDanno AU, starting in early Season 2. Cases are intact, but the canon is slightly changed, so Cathy and Steve don’t end up together. This contains added and missing scenes, with emotional depth that doubles as the groundwork for Steve and Danny’s budding relationship. Think of this as missed opportunities for McDanno potential.
These basically started as self-indulgent added stories or episodes that I would’ve liked to happen. Because, let's be real, McDanno is canon you guys.
