She liked Trinity beyond the limits of convenience, desired her outside the bedroom, and wanted to be considered when Trinity made plans. None of it was love yet. Yolanda wasn’t going to promote an emotion beyond the available evidence, but calling their relationship casual had become inaccurate. She’d built the rules herself, and now she was the one quietly fucking them up.
She wasn’t ready to tell Trinity. Recognition had already unsettled the structure that allowed them to move easily together, and Yolanda needed time before choosing what should replace it. She drew the blanket higher over Trinity’s shoulder and left her hand at the back of Trinity’s neck.

“Do I make you nervous?” she asks, although her tone of voice tells Trinity she already knows the answer. She reaches across the bar and wraps a hand loosely around the base of Trinity’s beer, thumb coming up to pick demurely at the peeling label of it.
“No,” she lies. Her heartbeat thuds furiously against her chest, and, maddeningly, between her legs.
A condescending smile parts Garcia’s lips. “Are you sure about that?” she asks. “You’re looking a little warm, Santos.”

But a smaller part of her knew the truth – it had been there long before him, long before she had been physically drowning in her guilt; it had always been there, and Trinity was the one who had chosen to grow it. No matter how much she tried to shift the blame onto others, it was always her; she was trouble – parasitic, evil trouble.

Trinity rubs her hands over her face, screaming internally for a second. If she can tell anyone about this it's her best friend.
"She did make a fancy-ish dinner, I guess. It was nice. And she said it was for no reason, but…"
"But what?" Dennis asks, leaning forward across the table. She looks back up at him, at the mischievous look on his face that she might ordinarily describe as knowing.
Fuck it. "She was really weird all evening, and then just before I went to bed she said Oh, by the way. I've been thinking and I decided we should have a baby."
Dennis chokes on his beer, some droplets splashing out onto the wooden surface as he gasps for breath. He pounds on his chest for a second as his eyes pop out of his head and Trinity feels incredibly grateful for this confirmation that she isn't in fact overreacting.
"She what?"
"It's insane!" She says, throwing her hands up for effect. "We aren't married. We don't own a house. I'm still a resident. And she wants me to get pregnant."
