It's been eight months since Gerri decided to take Tom's offer to come back to Waystar. It's been eight months since she's seen or talked to Roman. It's been a long eight months of slowly, deliberately, and casually fading into the void.
Before Gerri can give him a few of the more colorful insults she can think of off the top of her head, she hears a familiar voice say, “Hi, honey, sorry I’m late.” Thank god. She looks up as Roman slides into the booth right next to her, as though he has any right to do that, as though the last eight months haven’t existed, as though she didn’t leave him devastated and heartbroken in a room full of his closest family and friends (does he even have any friends?) at the tailgate party, as though that wasn’t the last meaningful conversation they ever had. She’s still really fucking grateful for his presence, however, so she moves over to accommodate him, trying very hard to ignore the warmth of Roman’s thigh pressing against hers. “Is this fuckface bothering you?”
