After a big fight between Mike Wheeler and Will Byers, Will goes nonverbal. Mike doesn't know what he said to upset the other boy this badly, but he for sure is gonna find out and make it up to him, he has to.

“Can we talk about it, please?” He asked, begging for the answer to be yes.There was a silence that was going to suffocate Mike at any second until he hearth a knock.
‘No’
Mike’s heart stopped. What? Did he hear that right just now. Mike felt desperation consuming him. He got up and pressed his hands against the window.
“But- but why? Please Will you have to talk to me!” He knew he was being too loud now, but he had to get Will to talk to him. He just had to!
“Will please!”
‘No’
Mike was ready to sob, to beg even more for Will’s forgiveness. He couldn't be without Will.

“Meow,” and there’s no way she heard that right, eyes snapping away from where she’d been distractedly watching the TV screen and over to her brother’s friend. She checks again, and yeah, Will is holding a stuffed bear, not a cat. The beloved Tiggy stays firmly attached to his bag, so they aren’t playing with tigers, either.
“So they go back down the mountain, and now all the village people are asking them about the crystal, and Rory is sad thinking they didn’t get it that whole time, but then–”
“Meow. Meow,” Will declares, removing the teddy from the dinosaur’s back and making it do some sort of interpretive dance.

“Like… Will, you’re a really great best friend, did you know that? I’m sorry I’m a bad one.” Mike’s heart clenched for some odd reason as he said it. “I’m sorry I’m like a bad…ex-boyfriend to your sister and stuff. And, and, I’m making you babysit me right now. I don’t mean to. I just wanted to try the weed pen with you, I think. If you wanna kill me, that’s okay. I would let you kill me,” Mike blinked at Will, eyes wide. He was still super high.
“Uh. Wow,” Will managed to say. “Your pupils are huge right now. Mike… it’s okay. I don’t know if I’m even ready to try weed yet. I’m fine just... being here.” Will looked at him again, with the whisper of sentimentality in those fluttery, soft eyes, holding a fry between his index finger and thumb.
“And your eyes are really… pretty too,” Mike said. “Can I just look at them for a moment?”
Will blinked.
“No, Will, don’t do that. Don’t blink. Let me look.”

“I can’t get ahold of Mom. I just want to get ahold of Mom. and I just want fucking scream at the top of my lungs but for some reason, I can’t. I feel like I can’t talk above this tone.”
She took a shaky breath as she ran her hands down her face, annoyed by the snot and tears but also so tired she couldn’t give a fuck about it.
“I’m going to kill that fucking shark.”
That did shock the man into a reaction, his eyebrows raised slightly above his brow as he let go of a long breath.
“No one’s killing any sharks kid, as for your mom here, use my phone. Try her number again. It’ll come up as the police so she’ll probably answer fast. I’m gonna go collect two more reports and then I’ll get back to you ok?”
He handed her the phone, and after she took it he rested his hand on her shoulder, giving her a soft squeeze,
“Hang in there kid, it’s gonna be ok.”
She stared at the Cop's phone, her blotchy face in the reflection.
It must be so easy to assume everything is going to be ok when it isn't your world that's been turned on it's head on a random afternoon.
